In 1987, two Danes named Ivan Sølvason and Niels Krogh Mortensen had an innovative idea: they were going to create an interactive video game TV program that would allow viewers to interact with the live broadcast by controlling the game character with their phones without delay.

After having developed a fully functional and customized system in addition to Hugo’s character, the concept was finally realized in 1990. Hugo became a huge success, eventually becoming a franchise and licensing over 40 TV channels worldwide.

Since then, Hugo’s media franchise has been included in a number of video games, applications, books, movies and even rap albums. Thanks to the Swedish software developer Play ‘n GO, it also hosts several casino games.

While the first space in which Hugo appeared was strictly based on the TV show, the next one allowed us to see the cute little guy in several other environments. In Hugo 2, for example, he was a locomotive driver, and in Hugo Goal, we came to see him as a rather useless goalkeeper.

Of these titles, Hugo 2 is the only one we can recommend, although none of them were particularly good.

More about the game

In the fourth instalments, entitled Hugo’s Adventure, Hugo’s world expanded. It comes with a bonus game, where you’ll see him plunge into the depths in search of treasure, and a free throw feature that takes you to impressive heights.

There are two features included in Hugo’s Adventure. The first is the Underwater Adventure bonus selection game, which comes into play when two submarines appear on cylinders 2 and 4 simultaneously.

Before the adventure begins, you can run a golden underwater slot machine that can give you up to 3 lives (hearts). You can choose underwater treasures, which can reveal cash prizes or take a life. At the end of the bonus, you will have a spin on the underwater multiplier for every remaining life.

Hugo’s Adventure is the most volatile Hugo game to date and also the best in the series, which is not really a great achievement that we can add.

As is usually the case with these slots, the bonus game is just a filler to spice things up a bit. Actually, it is a free spinning game that is quite fun.

Not only is it surprisingly entertaining, but the potential is also excellent, allowing you to accumulate up to 5000 times your bet.

If you liked Hugo’s other games, you’ll probably like it even more. Even if you are not a fan of the ugly Scandinavian troll, it is definitely worth trying the game, as the potential is good and the features are well thought out. Unless you find the graphics for the cartoons disturbing, of course.
